World No. 97 Somdev Devvarman lost 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (2-7) to 26th seed Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the first round of the Australian Open.
India's top-ranked singles player Somdev Devvarman lost 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (2-7) in the first round of the Australian Open to Spaniard Feliciano Lopez on Tuesday. The world number 97's loss ended India's singles campaign on the second day of the year's first Grand Slam in Melbourne.
Lopez, playing his 12th Australian Open, wasted no time in going past his Indian counterpart and registered a rather comfortable victory in to make it to the second round.
World No.27 Lopez will take on unseeded German Michael Berrer, who knocked out Michael Llodra of France 6-4, 7-5, 6-1.
